CORTISONE – flare and?

I got a coritsone injection for tennis elbow and got the "flare" side effect, its been 3 days and now finally starting to feel like it did before the shot. (I can at least bend my arm somewhat now) Not 100%. but at least it dont feel like it’s broke anymore. I swear that shot put me in soooooo much pain. I iced for 3 days and limited activity. But now, how long before the cortisone kicks in and helps my tennis elbow. Am I being impaitent or did this cortisone shot not do the trick?

How does the cortisone injection help?
Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory medication. Cortisone is not a pain relieving medication, it only treats the inflammation. When pain is decreased from cortisone it is because the inflammation is diminished. By injecting the cortisone into a particular area of inflammation, very high concentrations of the medication can be given while keeping potential side-effects to a minimum. Cortisone injections usually work within a few days, and the effects can last up to several weeks.

I don’t think it did do the trick, it should have worked almost straight away! Go back and tell the locum. Have a good day.

Cortisone will help with the swelling and inflammation. You are responsible to treat your elbow with sensitivty and care for the next week to 14 days to allow the area to heal. Don’t try to overuse the arm. Gently stretch and apply heat as needed. I hope this answers your question.
