Have you had tennis elbow?
For about 2 months I have had tennis elbow. I’m wanting to know what people have tried & tested, & what actually helped them to overcome the pain. I’m thinking of trying accupuncture…has this worked for anyone or is tennis elbow something that just comes& goes with time? I’m only 30-is it strange to get this at this age?

I got my tennis elbow and golfers elbow both from playing tennis in my mid to late 20’s. RICE it. Rest -Time off was the only solution. Ice it frequently. Compression - wear a tennis elbow brace. Elevation - doesn’t apply. Yes lifting weights to strengthen the muscles helps as does physiotherapy. Acupuncture did nothing for me.
Two really good tennis elbow racquets to try would be the Head Liquidmetal 4 which Tenniswarehouse.com is selling at a clearance price of $69 and the other is the ProKennex Kinetic 5G & 7G. I tried the 7G and liked it but prefer the Head Liquidmetal 4. I still keep one in my tennis racquet bag just incase.
I found that I got mine from hitting my serves and backhands too hard and flat with stiff frames (Wilson ProStaff 85) strung too high in tension (max + 6 lbs.) so if you go mid + 2 for tension and get a lesson or two from a Pro that might correct your strokes you should be okay after taking 3 months off.
I’m playing competitive tennis again in the O40 Mens but string my Volkl DNX 10 Mids at Max - 2 and wrap a Yonex Supergrap over the leather to help absorb some shock as well. No problems. I demoed the Wilson K Tour 90 strung at 55 which is mid range the other day and it felt fine. I plan on buying two and stringing them even lower. A lot depends on the frame. These would be very similar to the Wilson ProStaffs that I had strung at max + 6 just to give you an idea of how excessively high my tension was back then. Pete Sampras strung at 10 lbs over max but most people follow Manufacturers suggested ranges and do not exceed max or if they do its only by 2 lbs.
Over 30 means our bodies are beginning to wear down or more accurately start to feel the effects of 30 years of use. It can only be corrected by weight training - (free weights, machines, cables), healthy eating (including vitamins, supplements), stretching - (yoga, pilates, aerobics), and proper form for your tennis strokes.
watz dat
I hate when that happens. I just do the "tennis elbow stretch"(that’s what my coach calls it) before playing tennis. Its where you stretch your forearm.
Good Luck
P.S. It’s normal to have tennis elbow at any age. I’m sixteen and I have it sometimes.
The only way to really prevent tennis elbow is to either change your form, or build up your grip (wrist, hands, forearm muscles). professional tennis players never suffer from tennis elbow simply because they have worked their forearms so much.
now, the best way to do this is to use a wrist roller device. it is pretty much a plastic or metal tube with a string and weight hanging from it.
another way is to get a gyro ball from Sports Authority (or check online).
and one last one is to get a squeeze ball or gripper. Do these exercises as much as you can, and within a few weeks you will have very powerful forearms and wrists. it also makes your serves, groundies, and volleys better too.
to alleviate the pain, just ice it down and stretch the muscle as much as you can and that should do the trick.
yes and it sucks
you pretty much have to stop playing for a few months. I’d also recommend a two handed back hand in the future.
Exercises will help i nthe future, too
Search on the internet for tennis elbow. I seem to remember WEbMD having some good info on it.
heya first of all..
and yeah i have been struggling with tennis elbow problems since early this year…but now its much better…
accupuncture works yea…but sadly the effect isnt permanent…it will temporarily make your elbow like new…but doesnt permanently remove the problem…(i am chinese, i tried both western/eastern remedies)
after discussions with the various practitioners…the best advice i got was to have a good warm-up with your WRIST…
get the wrist properly warmed up…
also remember to wear an elbow brace
and yeah bout the age thing…i am only 27 and i got tennis elbow…
hope it helps ya out…cheers
