The ones on my wrists are still raised, after 4 years. The sleeves of your uniform won't mess up the tattoo, they may irritate it though because it'll probably be scabby. Just drink a lot of water and make sure to apply the healing ointment (I used Aquaphor, worked just fine) and it should be alright. ]]> By: Amy http://curetenniselbow.org/1161/how-long-does-it-usually-take-for-a-tattoo-to-be-fully-healed/comment-page-1/#comment-3926 Amy Thu, 18 Feb 2010 09:31:24 +0000 http://curetenniselbow.org/1161/how-long-does-it-usually-take-for-a-tattoo-to-be-fully-healed/#comment-3926 i may have answered this question in the military section, but here it goes... the healing process is different depending on the person and how you heal it. the sleeves of your uniform will rub on it and it will have an effect on your tattoo. a tattoo could heal in at least 2 weeks if you take care of it right and its not overmoisturized or having alot of friction on it. it could take longer if these things occur. your tattoos should flake naturally, in light flakes, it should not scab. do not use A&D to heal your tattoo. the first day or two its okay, but you should be using a non scented water based lotion such as lubriderm, curel, or keri, in very small amounts. after applying it should not be shiny or glossy, if it is you put too much. although it may feel good to have a wet tattoo, overmoisturizing leads to scabs which leads to loss of color. do not cover your tattoo to try to protect it from rubbing with cling wrap,gauze or anything of that nature, warm wet unventilated place are a breeding ground for bacteria, plus, your tattoo needs oxygen to breathe and heal right. many people get tattoos before they train or deploy, and your arm is one of the best places to get it compared to the body, where your IBA and other gear will be rubbing. just keep your tattoo clean, wash it often with liquid anti bacterial soap and clean hands (not bar soap or washcloths etc.. these carry bacteria) just try not to be banging your fresh tattoos on your weapon and stuff lol!
