What can I do to make myself a better tennis player?
I going to be a freshman in high school and I’m playing for my school’s tennis team and I was wondering what things (exercises, drills, hitting etc) could I do at home to become a better player and get in better shape for it. I live near another tennis court too.
Also what can I do about my getting nervous when playing tennis. I’m really good when I concentrate, but sometimes I get really nervous and miss the ball. What can I do to relax myself.

It is more than just trying hard and giving it your best like many would say, it is a lot of hard work and staying at the court after hours hitting balls. to get in shape, jumping rope is probably the BEST thing you can do to get your footwork at its best. also, another wonderful thing to do for tennis is join a swim team. they are different season sports so when you are done swimming and start tennis, you will be able to outlast almost any player as far as stamina goes. now to focus on your actual tennis game. it is extremely hard to just hit balls every day and get better. private lessons with coaches are pretty much the best thing you can do to get better. if you just hit balls a lot, you will not have the best technique. lessons teach you the right way to hit the ball which makes you better. try asking a coach to focus on one stroke per lesson. such as volleys, backhands, forehands and serves. once you do have the right technique, hitting a lot of balls will help you to perfect your shots. also, don’t stop taking lessons. every now and then is good. and as for your nerves, there isnt much you can do. playing a lot of matches will get you more experience and make you feel more comftorable. playing tournaments is very good for this. everyone has nerves when they start. they will go away though. hope this helps.
Larry Bird used to get up every morning before school and shoot 200 free throws.
Are you willing to make that kind of sacrifice?
Practice, practice, practice.
Good luck!
Al
just practice A LOT! and you should get your serves down because you can’t play in a match if you can’t serve so really work on them! hit like 100 serves a day and you will eventually get it
Ride bike to get your stamina up, and when you get nervous just have fun with it or take deep breathes and talk to yourself in your head
