I’d do some stairs. Jog once in a while. just build up that endurance and get some strength. run back and forth from line to line on the tennis courts.

Preparing to play for the first time? Or just preparing yourself before stepping onto the court?.. I don’t know how old you are either, but..

Core and legs are crucial when it comes to playing tennis. Core and legs, core and legs! This is where all your power comes from, so work on alot of that. Ab, oblique exercises, lunges, squats, any type of explosive leg work. Another good thing to work on is shoulder stability (for serving). Use resistance bands to work on shoulder rotational exercises to avoid injuries and to improve the power of your serve. I mainly do stuff with medicine balls, resistance bands, and light dumbbells. Of course, you should still do some machines to build some strength, but you mainly want to work on explosive, fast-paced exercises (think cardio-like). After all, tennis is a sport that involves alot of cardio.

Also! Don’t do static stretching before playing (holding a stretch for 10-15 seconds). You may think you’re doing the right thing by doing this, but it can actually weaken your muscles, decrease performance, and increase your chances of injury. You want to static stretch AFTER exercise, because it helps your muscles to cool down and relax. Before playing, you should do DYNAMIC STRETCHES. These are quick holds of a certain stretch, doing it over and over. You can do this by going across the court, while quickly stretching your quads, groin muscles, arm swings..anything to loosen up the muscles in a quick, repetitive motion.
