tennis and my body type?

I’m 17 5’5” and i weight about 225..and i somehow want to play tennis..any tips..encouragement etc…growing tips etc..any help is welcomed..1st tennis lesson tomorrow..i’m also a beginner to top it off.. tennis exercises etc.. thanks for any help. also im a male ..cant believe i almost forgot to add this.

    Tennis is all about dedication. Size helps, but if you work hard then achieve anything. My few tips for you would be to run and get in great shape, eat healthy, practice everyday, and don’t get dissappointed. Growing tips…there aren’t any, you will be as tall as you are suppose to be. To play a strong game of tennis, you need a strong midsection/abs and legs. If you work hard, you can be good. I am 17 and 5’7", and i am a nationally ranked player in the U.S. Just put your mind to it and good luck.

    2nd this was posted to me when i asked about getting fitter for tennis:

    Tennis is all about endurance and stamina. Often times between players of equal skill level and talent the player in better shape and better condition will hold out longerand win once the other player cracks. So you are correct that fitness is key to being a good tennis player, even if you are just playing as a hobby.

    Aerobic exercise is important to getting in shape for tennis. Try exercises like cycling, running or jogging, swimming, or anything else where you are going to keep your body working for extended periods of time. This will help you out on the tennis court.

    Also exercises like crunches, squats, and lunges help to build muscles that are important to tennis players like the core muscles (abdominals) and legs.

    Lifting weights can also help to build up your arm strength, although don’t get too bulky as that will restrict your flexibility and tennis players should be flexible and mobile rather than bulky. Although it is good to have a decent amount of strength, but don’t forget that most of your power will come from your legs.

    Don’t forget to do footwork exercises as well. You want to make sure that you can move around easily on the court and not trip on your own feet. Try exercises where you set up cones around the court and then have someone hit tennis balls to you from the opposite side of the court. You have to weave in and out of the cones and get in position in time to hit a good shot, this will help you to get good footwork skills.

    Don’t forget to practice your actual tennis shots and techniques and to eat right too. Good luck to a future tennis player!

    And if you have a racquet and some balls, try playing against a wall, Check out classic tennis first. there are some tips for doing this on there.
    (start now wall ball)
    If you only have a racquet try practising your swing (with help form classic tennis or brent abel.)
    if you only have tennis balls then try tossing them up and catching them and trowing them agaist the wall and catching them.

    Best tip Just go for it and listen to your coach and also try to hit every ball. ( even if you miss. your coach has seen it all before!) the best thing to remember is to try.
    also remember to check out brent abel and classic tennis – best ones to start with are the start now beginner, start now forehand and start now backhand.

    tip numero uno: dont give up the first couple of days,the ball might be going all over the court but that gets better with practice

    tip numero dos:dont bite the hand that feeds you,your tennis coaches or insrtuctors might forget how hard it is to begin playing tennis and if they keep telling you dont do that,hit higher,and YOU know you cant(yet) then dont stress out it will get better

    tip numero tres:bring an ice cold water,and a wet towel it will get hot,watching how the other players hit might help ya out a bit as well

    encouragement: ?…work towards a you want to be the best on your team,go to national lvls,or just be ahead 2 -3 people on the team …good luck hope you have are guranteed to get better over the course of two months(when you practice) watch tennis channel,watch people play tennis,ask more questions,eat the right foods(not junk food) drink lots of water.

    Good for you, tennis is so much fun. =]

    Chances are, you will want to quit in the first few weeks. My advice? Don’t. Stick with it, you’ll be so glad you did.

    Tennis, at higher levels, is non-stop sprinting. That’s not something you need to be concerned about at this point, but you can work on it if you want to, it’ll help later.

    Ab exercises are good. Not essential, as some coaches would have you believe, but they really do help.

    Now, the most important part of tennis; Footwork. You have good footwork, you can play tennis. some good footwork exercises are 1) ladders. do you have a one sided ladder? Lay it flat on the ground, and run through it, one foot in each rung. Don’t have a ladder? put pieces of tape down and use those. 2) The grapevine, aka karaoke. This is where you run sideways, putting first your left foot in front of your right, then behind. In front of your right, behind. 3) practice back-pedaling (running backwards.) this is used quite often in tennis. A good exercise for this is running the length of the court backwards.

    As for encouragement, well… looks like it’s story time. =]
    Both of my parents are 4.0 tennis players (the 4.0 is their ranking… 4.0 is pretty good.) and I’d often go to the local courts and watch them play, and sometimes hit with them. I was never really serious about it, until 6th grade (I’m in 8th). I got really good really fast, mainly because I’d been playing for so many years. Not to say I didn’t put a heck of a lot of work into it, like you should, but I was already half way there when I started playing. Last year at a tennis camp, I took home two trophies (one champion, one runner up) for the 12 and under group. This year, only one year later, I took home two trophies yet again, but for the 18 and under group. My point is, when I started playing seriously, I could beat kids my age and younger. But in a year’s time, and spending every night on the court with my dad, I managed to take home a doubles champion and singles runner-up trophy that was meant for kids 4-5 years older than me. The girl I lost to in the singles match is 18 years old. She plays number 1 on her high school team, which she lead to regionals, which her school won because of her. So obviously, she was way above the skill level I should be playing; but that match lasted 2 hours, and the score was pretty darn close, too. My point? If a 13 year old girl can jump up an entire age group in one year playing kids 4 years older and still take home the same trophies as the year before, then you can be great at tennis, too. =]

    I"m 5"6 and i weight about the same and i’m just only 16 so what you have to work on is footwork and speed and by the way play doubles or mixed doubles because it is going to take alot work to play on singles

    try to have fun with it right now. if you want to get competitive then i would suggest that you get a good coach and a few rivals that are around your level. play as much as many sets as you can and try to develop natural swings. watching tennis on tv will help you a lot. i’m glad you chose to pick up tennis because it is a great overlooked sport.

    I think that after a couple lessons you’ll realize that tennis is very addicting because you can always improve. Try to play even between lessons and don’t quit… ever. Tennis is a sport you can play for the rest of your life.
