How do I get rid of Tennis Elbow?

My elbow has been hurting for about a year now. My symptoms indicate tennis elbow, but I don’t play tennis. I do work on the computer daily. It is very bothersome and hurts to bend it or lift objects that are not that heavy. I bought a tennis elbow brace that sits right below my elbow but it doesn’t help much. How can I get rid of this? It hinders any exercising I want to do using arm movements.

It’s one of those injuries that will nag you for a while until it heals. Like most injuries, you should rest it, ice it, and take anti-inflammatory medication, like ibuprofen or Aleve. The band helps relieve symptoms, but it should be a supplement to these other things, not a solution. The main problem is inflammation and your goal should be to get that down.

Once it is not inflamed anymore you could start with heat, maybe a massage, and you could do strengthening exercises. The same problem might happen again if you don’t strengthen the muscles around your forearm. You can google exercises to do for tennis elbow (flexbars are good), but remember not to do that when you still have pain!

You can go to a doctor and get some gel to rub into the arm directly, and if it gets bad enough they use a steroid injection. I’d say it’s a good idea to go to a doctor if you can – you’ll probably find out you need to stop doing anything that gives you pain. It’s certainly unfortunate to stop everything but it may be the only way to heal it.

tape sports tape (thick) around your wrist area FAIRLY TIGHT! it may be a bit uncomfortable but it works. keep it on during the day ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PLAY SPORTS OR CLEAN THE HOUSE ETC. and take it off at night so it can rest. 🙂 good luck

If you played tennis, i would say change your grip, absorber, strings, racket. But as you dont, i would suspect it would be down to the computer from the information you ve provided. Try buying those pads that keep your wrists elevated above your hands when you type. The elbow problem maybe linked to your wrist position. Also for injuries (R.I.C.E) – rest, ice, compress, elevate.
