How can I help my tennis game?

Is there a certain exercise or workout I can do to make me better at tennis? I especially need help with my backhands.

Here are two ways to practice your backhand depending on whether you hit with two hands or one hand.

If you hit your backhand with two hands, use a medicine ball. Put the ball at the side where you hit backhands and try throwing it forwards, using your hips to generate power and shifting your weight. Make sure that you throw the ball effortlessly from low to high. Have a partner catch the ball and return it to you. Continue repeating this exercise until you get used to this motion.

If you hit your backhand with one hand, use a comfortable weight on your backhand side. Practice your backhand motion by extending your arm with the weight. This will help develop your tricep muscles. Make sure that when you extend your dominant hand outwards from low to high, your non dominant hand goes in the opposite direction. Bend your knees for more stability and power, making sure that your knee in front is pointing forwards.

Keep doing either of these exercises until you get used to them before practicing on the court.

try double backhand. If you are a right handed player, your master hand is the left hand for double backhand. Practise using the left hand only the same way you play forehand stroke using your right hand. Until you are ok with the single left hand stroke, than place your right hand at the bottom of the racket, use it as a support only, and still let your left hand do the job!

The backboard helps a lot for your backhand.

No particular exercise I can think of other than stretching your legs deep knee bends and lots of running!

Tennis is so much fun isn’t it!

Foot work drills all the way. Besides playing tennis, that is the best thing for it. You probably use a two handed backhand. Get your second arm (the arm with your non dominate hand) stronger. That hand does a lot of work in a backhand.

Talk to your coach and see if you’re doing it right and hit on the wall. It may feel weird at first, but you’ll get used to it. Practice footwork and excersize drills. Practice Practice Practice!

Imagine your a whip that cracks as you hit the ball. Works for forehands, serves, baseball, golf, and fly swatters.
