How to pick the right Tennis Racket?

There’s a tennis court across the street from me and people look like they are having fun and getting exercise (both of which I need). How do I pick out a good tennis racket but I don’t want to spend too much, either. Remember, this is just fun for me.

    I own a tennis store, http://www.justtennis.net.

You can go to WalMart and get a cheap racquet for $30. But remember it is not a good racquet. If you like the sport, you will quickly discover that it will limit your game. The tennis industry specifically makes decent quality "starter" racquets. These are priced lower and are designed for someone starting the game.

When you get a racquet the grip size is VERY important. See http://www.justtennis.net/grips.htm for a discussion of this. Or other web sites also have discussion of grips.

You can get a new starter racquet but for an older model for between $50 and $70. Consider the Wilson 5.3 Oversize or the Prince O3 Aero Scream

Also please get a GOOD pair of tennis shoes. Should cost at least $80 or you are not getting the top quality. Any brand is good, fit is more important than brand in the better quality shoe. You only have one pair of feet and you have to wear out something when you play. So get some shoes designed for tennis and wear them out.
