I don’t like exercise. But I can feel that I need it. What can I do?
I have tons of great, productive hobbies that I really enjoy, but they all involve sitting… playing piano, graphic design, prayer, TV, taking drives, etc. I’d just as soon be doing one of those during all my free time. But my body is starting to ache for no reason, I’m always tired, and I’m starting to have trouble sleeping. I need exercise! But I don’t really enjoy it and I have a really hard time making time for it. Mornings are basically out because I attend 7 a.m. Mass before work when I can drag myself out of bed for it. And I go to bed too late already.
I do like riding my bike, but 1) it doesn’t feel like it’s exercising enough muscles, and 2) I’ve been avoiding it because it hurts my arms (tennis/golfer’s elbow). How can I get some exercise into my day, without buying any expensive equipment, and keep doing it past the first two forced weeks?

Join a gym and take group fitness classes. I used to be like you, I thought I just hated exercise and it was supposed to be boring. I ran 5 miles (which I haven’t done yet today, because I’m dreading it, but I will). So, I started taking some group fitness classes and the time flies by. I don’t have to debate going, I just go. My problem now is dragging my kids to go, that is another issue though. At first, the classes will be a little hard, but don’t put so much pressure on yourself, only promise that you will do only what you can do and you WILL finish the class. In one month, you will not struggle as much, and you will look back and be amazed at how hard if felt just a month earlier. You will love the music and the other people in the class. The instructors will motivate you. Trust me on this, it will turn you into a long term exerciser. Just do it, promise yourself a treat of some sort if you do it each day. I used to stop for coffee after the class. After a week, I’d buy myself a new lipstick. After two weeks, some cool new work out clothes. Get the picture? Good luck!
Go to the local YMCA and swim laps.
walk with weights =)
Well you always want to do something you like when your exercising. Doing something you dont like is one quick way to stop exercising all together. So keep riding your bike. Also maybe you should try some new things out like pilates, yoga, hiking, swimming, ect. Sign up for a new class and try it out. Good luck reaching your fitness goals,Brent

Add music to your workout, or watch a movie if you are on a stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical. It will keep your mind off the activity so it’s not so boring.
Make time for a walk. If you take a 30-40 minute walk every day, it will give you some exercise and help clear your head. I think just being outside helps put me in a good mood.
walking or running is good cause its the cheapest and easiest form of tranxportation. i guess i am kind of running obsessed now but it took me a long time to get there. you have to find a way to zone in completely and then suddenly you dont even notice how tired you are. i like listening to music while i run especially really upbeat songs because it gives you a rythm to compare your strides to and something else to concentrate on.
