anyone out there had trouble with tendonitis of the elbow?
i lift weights 5-6 times a week, and i noticed this pain in my inner and outer elbow. it got worse over time, and i finally went to see a doctor. he told me it tennis elbow or tendonitis. he gave me a steroid shot which helped temporarily. however, it has not helped completely. i’m wondering if anyone else has had this and if there is a way without surgery to correct it. (maybe with physically therapy?) my doc says i will have to have surgery to correct it permanently. any thoughts?

If it really is tendonitis, then not even surgery will help. I have tendonitis in my knees (patelar tendon) and my achillies. It sucks, but what does help is a lot of stretching. For your elbow, there are straps you can wear on your forearm that helps keep pressure on the tendon. You probably have seen others wear them, especially tennis players. I wear that small thin brace you see people wear right under their knee…has a similar effect.
Bottom line, tendonitis is something you have to live with. Warm up properly and stretch before and after workouts. Also, you may want to lower the intensity of your weight lifting. Ice or heat treatment to your elbow after a workout really helps too.
surgery for tendonitis???
Its just inflammation of the tendon. If you stop working it until the inflammation goes it should be fine. Its just like letting a pulled muscle heal.
You can try over the counter Non steroidal anti inflammatorys (NSAIDs) to reduce the inflammation.
The need for surgery would suggest more than tendonitis.
