Are you in pain and need cure for tennis elbow? This article provides you with all the information you need to learn about this specific injury called tennis elbow. I know it hurts but trust me when I say that there are methods that will totally eliminate your pain and recover your arm’s full functionality.

Tennis elbow is a common injury that affects the normal functioning of the elbow. In this condition, the tendon at the elbow joint, that connects the forearm muscles to the arm bone, is damaged. The joint pain prevents the person from performing daily activities. Tennis elbow commonly occurs among manual laborers and sportspersons, and tennis players are especially at a higher risk of developing tennis elbow.

Jobs such as painting and plumbing can also cause tennis elbow. Great players like Sachin Tendulkar and Tim Henman have also suffered from tennis elbow but with the proper treatment, they have recovered completely. In about 75 percent of the cases, tennis elbow affected the dominant arm.

Tennis Elbow Cure

There are a number of treatment options available, which are considered a cure for tennis elbow. Treatments work best if the injured tendon is allowed proper rest by avoiding activities that involve the elbow. Anti-inflammatory medications are commonly prescribed for people suffering from tennis elbow. These medicines are available in oral form and can be easily taken to reduce inflammation and control pain. Cortisone injections are used when oral medicines fail. These injections can provide relief and decrease the pain.

Other techniques that have been useful for curing a tennis elbow are ultrasound therapy, acupuncture and deep tissue massage. Activity modifications, that do not put excessive pressure on the affected arm, are also recommended to accelerate the healing process.

Surgery is the last option when elbow pain does not subside even after taking rest for 6 to 12 months. This form of treatment is used when the tendon is seriously damaged. In such cases, even months of rest along with medications, does not help the cause. In the surgical procedure, the damaged tissue is removed from the tendon. However, surgery is rarely used in the treatment of tennis elbow. Less than 5% of the cases are recommended for surgery. Many a times, patients are completely cured by using non-surgical treatments.

Tennis Elbow Home Cures

People affected by a mild form of tennis elbow can apply an ice pack for around 10 to 20 minutes to reduce the pain and swelling. A cloth must be placed between the the ice and the skin, as direct contact can cause cold injuries. Ice sessions must be repeated after every couple of hours for optimum results. Medicines such as ibuprofen can also help relieve the symptoms. Wearing an arm brace is also beneficial for the patient, as it limits the movement of the tendon, redirects the muscle pull, thus providing relief to the injured tendon. Arm braces, also known as elbow braces, can be purchased from sports shops and pharmacies.

By doing some simple exercises, it is possible to control the symptoms of tennis elbow. Physiotherapy can provide a lot of relief and doctors may advice certain strengthening exercises to relieve the pain. In some cases, where surgery failed, exercises have helped cure tennis elbow.

Depending upon the severity of the injury, a specific mode of treatment is advised as a cure for tennis elbow. It is also necessary to prevent further injury to the elbow and perform activities as recommended by the doctor until the condition improves.

i’ve been having elbow pain for the last two years, possibly from me working at the shipping department at sears, and having two heavy objects fall on me, and me trying to lift them up myself. i have had several xrays, three MRIs, one with nuclear medicine, a few physical therapies, and one cortisone injection, and the doctors can’t figure out whats wrong with it. nothing comes up on the MRIs or xrays. the pain comes and goes, and sometimes it feels like it expands all throughout my elbow, but it does not radiate anywhere, its a centralized pain. i’m thinking it might be tendinitis, but i’m not sure. the doctors have ruled out tennis elbow, because my pain doesn’t radiate to my hand. does anyone else have this condition or maybe know something about it? thanks in advance.

I’ve had tennis elbow for some time now from military training. I’m out of the service now, and have rested my bicep for 8-10 weeks doing physical therapy and all the necessary things, but it’s still just as bad. Please do not recommend medical treatments (i.e. cortisone or resting). My question is if anyone knows of bicep/shoulder workouts that do not put too much strain on my elbows. Curls seem to only worsen them, and shoulder press is out of the question. Any WORKOUT ideas will be greatly appreciated, as not being able to lift weights and only doing cardio has caused me to lose nearly all of my hard earned muscle mass. Thanks in advance.
Correction: I’ve rested my elbows, not just biceps.

I will be having surgery this week to fix my chronic (three years) tennis elbow. I tried getting a cortisone shot but it only made my condition worse. I want to know what the recovery from the surgery will be like. I am told by my surgeon that he will be trimming the tendon (ligament?) shaving the bone where it attaches and then reattaching the tendon. I start back at school three hours away from home two weeks after my surgery. Am I cutting it too close? I also am a little nervous about the general anesthesia. I know I will be ok but I guess I just don’t know what to expect and it is making me nervous.

Also, I don’t play tennis but I thought there might be more people over here who have had experience with this.

Ok. So I go the doctor and he says, I think you have lateral epicondylitis. He figures this out by bending and twisting my arms a few times until I would cringe in pain. I explain it "hurts severely if I bump it." He gives me a shot of Cortisone and says that should help, come back in a few weeks if it still hurts bad.

Well it did, the cortisone did squat. I went back and the next doctor says the same thing. Ice it, take Advil wait a few months, it’ll get better.

WTH? Just chill and wait? Still hurts, and its not getting better at all.

So anyways, I bent my arm and looked closely at it today. There is a lump on my elbow the size of pea exactly where the pain is emanating from. Touching it causes severe pain. I look and see no other spot on my other elbow like this. It’s smooth.

Anyone had a similar like pain and this lump? Is this lump a normal part of lateral epicondylitis?

BTW…HMO ; )
The lump does not seem like a pus filled cyst. It feels fairly solid and stationary. It almost feels like it may be part of some torn or delaminating tendon or cartilage. The pain is severe when it’s touched firmly. On a side note I have a very strong tolerance to pain, which is another reason this worries me.

I will be going back the doctor in about a week, but just wanted to see if anyone had had a similar like experience with this lump.

ive had an elbow problem for a long time. 4 months. first i went to a doctor that specializes in that kind of stuff and she said tennis elbow first, then she said ligaments are loose, then im missing a sheet of tissue. i went to a chiropractor and he said different. i went to a super expensive sport massage therapist, and he said different. i can’t pin point the pain for some reason(told them that) i think its bursitis. what should i do? ice or heat? i want a cortisone shot but afraid, i heard it hurts alot more then a normal tetanus shot.

I got a coritsone injection for tennis elbow and got the "flare" side effect, its been 3 days and now finally starting to feel like it did before the shot. (I can at least bend my arm somewhat now) Not 100%. but at least it dont feel like it’s broke anymore. I swear that shot put me in soooooo much pain. I iced for 3 days and limited activity. But now, how long before the cortisone kicks in and helps my tennis elbow. Am I being impaitent or did this cortisone shot not do the trick?

I’ve been to a cranky orth Dr. twice in the last year. He’s given me cortisone shots twice, and diag as lateral epiconodilitis (tennis elbow.) Also x-rayed it. Everything is clear. But the inflammation just doesn’t want to seem to go away. I’ve tried everything, including following his instructions. Maybe it’s time for a new doc. It gets stiff mainly in the morning, and was wondering before I try a new doc should I try heat, rather than ice?

This started about 2 months ago in mainly my hand and fingers. It extended to my wrist, then forearm. My primary said "tennis elbow" and gave me a cortisone shot. It didn’t help and I’ve had lots of cortisone shots in my hand and wrist over the past several years. He sent me to an orthopaedic who said it didn’t seem like carpel tunnel but had me tested. The nerve conduction test and EMG testing for pinched nerves and nerve damage came back fine. Now he wants me to see a neurologist to rule out MS. No other symptoms that I can think of. The muscle weakness has now started in my upper arm. It hurts to type at work, brush my teeth and even drive. (It’s my dominant arm.) Any thoughts?

I am having real PAIN after cortisone injection. I just got a cortisone shot yesterday afternoon for my tennis “elbow”, and within 1 hour my arm/elbow hurt way worse than before the shot.

24 hrs later it’s killing me! The pain in unbearable..Ive been icing it, taking vicodin and still no relief.

How long does this so called “cortisone flare” last. Ive got work to do, and I hurt so much! I wish the doc would have told me of possible side effects.. 5 weeks.. is the pain from the shot, or your original existing pain?>

I have been suffering from tendinitis and tennis elbow of the forearms and elbows for over 3 years off and on, but mostly on. Everything I do to heal it seems to be only a temporary fix and it always returns, always…I’ve done physical therapy, cortisone injections, surgery, rest from work, you name it. I even paid some shmuck .00 online for information on how to heal it but it was only illustrations of the exercises that I already do at therapy. My elbows also hurt INSIDE the joint. I am totally beside myself and need help. I have asked for an MRI to hopefully reveal the problem but have gotten denied. I am in the process of trying to find a doctor that will approve one, but doesn anyone know what this is? I am willing to do anything to permanently cure this condition. I believe that there is a solution for everything and that it only needs to be found. Someone out there must know what is wrong with me or have somewhat of an idea so that I can research it further. Help!
This is a workers comp injury from 2004 and it is difficult to find a doctor that will take it. I know you are going to tell me to just find a new doctor but it isn’t that easy. I just want to know what this could be so I can bring it up to my present doctor.

I am going to the MEPS in about 10 days. I have a slightly aggravated tendon or ligament in my elbow that reduces my arm to about 15 degrees less than straight. I have been approved to go for all kinds of other injuries, ACL tears and ankle tears and breakage. I did not mention my elbow because it does not cause any problems. I can still do push ups and pull ups. I can still ride BMX damn well. I didn’t even consider it until I read the descriptions of exercises done at MEPS. I can touch thumbs to shoulders, but when I extend arms out in front with palms up, one arm is a little off. Considering getting a cortisone shot before I go. Does it sound like I will be DQ’d for this?

I am wondering if a cortisone shot will only provide temporary pain relief? Been struggling with tennis elbow for 7 weeks. I haven’t touched a racquet in 6 weeks and stopped lifting weights 4 weeks ago.

Started taking aleve twice a day 5 days ago and plan to continue that for total of 14 days then see MD if no better. I was icing it 1-2 times a day for about 2 weeks but stopped after no improvement felt.

Any thoughts?

I have suffered from chronic tennis elbow and golfers elbow in both arms for almost a year. For some reason I am not healing. 5 cortisone shots did not work and now I am on percocets and oxy contins. They take the edge off but do not take the pain away. The mornings are a nightmare because I am so stiff and seized up that I am in instant tears. I feel alone and frustrated. This is a work related injury and workers compensation doesn’t know what else to do with me. I was in physiotherapy for 8 months andwasn’tt even able to start strengthening exercises because Icouldn’tt straighten my arms. Workers compensation is now enrolling me in a pain management program. Has anyone ever been to one of these programs????I am 36 years old with two kids and my life is limited. Simple things like turning on the kitchen faucet in the morning is unbearable. Is anyone else dealing with this kind of situation???Please talk to me. I feel alone.
