Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, causes lateral elbow pain for more than just tennis players. Any repetitive motion of the wrist and forearm can cause this painful elbow condition. We will talk about common causes, the structures involved, and some great exercises to help you get out of pain.

about 7 months ago i was diagnosed with tennis elbow and had a steroid shot by my doctor.. after that my elbow got alot worse, and the skin where i had the shot lost all colour, became really thin and the muscle around my joint pretty much dissapeared! i have now had immense pain in my elbow. The bony bit of my elbow is extremely painful to touch, my forearm aches and is painful, underneath my elbow is also sore and the crease where my arm bends is also sore. I also cannot straighten my arm without severe pain and then rebending when i do get it straight is agony, i have been having ultasound physio and an arm clasp with no help whatsoever! I also cant get that hand warm.. no matter how much i try and use it and not compensate, my hand is so cold it hurts me. I am going for an MRI scan in a week and im really scared.. i dont know what to expect and i dont know if they will say i need surgery… Im an 18 year old girl who has done martial arts all my life.. could that be the cause??
someone please help me with this?? suggestions/ advice or experiences.

I hurt myself playing golf two days ago. I have extreme bruising and swelling on the forearm. From the elbow down it is bruised all the way to the wrist on the underneath side. Just a little bruising just below the bicep. Very sore to touch the elbow joint and upper forearm. The bicep is normal and not sore. Any suggestions?

Well somehow my elbow bone is weird, it’s like sticking out and when I play basketball, football, or swim, it hurts on my inner forearm and inner arm. I got it in both arms. I think this happened because I started to workout and did several push ups a day. I’m not really sure what I have but I think it might be Tendinitis. I’ve had this for months now, and I want to workout again but every time I lift something heavy it hurts. I went to the doctor and she told me my tendons were messed up and I had to take Advil and rest until I recover. Is there any other thing I could do to help my elbow? Like some exercises or any equipment that could help support my bone? Thanks in advance.

am going to a doctor but do you think I might have tennis elbow?

I heard it happens on your forearm-elbow. It happens from turning your wrist outward. I think I may have it on my right arm from using the mouse. (I am on the computer a lot for school, email and of course facebook!(DOnt worry I am healthy, strong, active, smart))

I dont really feel pain, just like kind of tightness or numbness or tingly and it feels a little awkward or discomforting. The feeling comes when I write or am on the computer. Id say I have the feeling 1/2 the time to 2/3 of the time?

DO you think It could be tennis elbow? Or something else? I have tried resting it (no computer) and icing it, but I still feel it. I feel it upper forearm underneath(like if toy traced you palm of your hand to your armpitt. Maybe strained muscle?
Oh a few more things. my right forearm is weaker then the left. and my elbow hurts when I straighten my whole arm. I also often here like a click

I guess I have 2 parts to my question.
1. I have just started playing golf for the first time. I am 26 years old. I have been taking tips from my friends who have been playing since they where kids. I after about a week or so, my left forearm, wrist and back started to get sore (I’m right-handed). There is actually a light sharp pain in my left elbow joint when I try to fully extend my left arm. Does this mean my swing form is incorrect?
2. I can officially admit that I love this game and I am addicted to it. I just played my first 9 holes and I love the game even more. However, after about 4 weeks of playing my left forearm and wrist remains sore. I know I should stop and let it heal, but I always hear practicing everyday will improve your game. I should mention that I am not hitting over 100 balls everytime I visit the driving range. The most I would do is about 50. Is it good to practice your swing when your sore?

So yeah, I had tennis elbow (never played tennis in my life, funnily enough) it was from hyper extending + carrying extremely heavy objects in an extremely stupid way…

Anyway I pretty much ignored it, got on with life…Now (a week later) my forearm is extremely HOTand SWOLLEN (mainly the large muscle between elbow & wrist) and keeps going ‘dead’ (wrist too) and looks a little bruised (not external bruising from any kind of trauma) on inside forearm….

Not going back to physio! (just recovered from knee surgery) so looking for some advice or just hearing from anyone who has had anything similar. Thanks

I began experiencing pain in my right arm about a month ago. I tried just using my left for a while but then got the same pain in that also. I went to the doc and she determined i have tennis elbow and prescribed motrin, a pair of tennis elbow braces, and regular ice/heat and rest. It’s been a few weeks now and it’s not a lot better. The odd thing is, i have pain on the outside of my arm AND the inside (all in forearm). Also, im now having swelling in my right arm and hand. Can anyone shed some light on this and if im doing the right thing? Thanks!!
Thanks for clearing that up! My next question is: where should i wear the brace? I have pain in the tendon and the lower extensor muscles so i am not sure where to put the pressure point. And the outer side of my forearm is swollen in one spot (kind of halfway between elbow and wrist – if you look down at your arm with palm turned down). So i’m confused where the pressure point should be… Any advice?

I think I may have de Quervians in my right hand/forearm and was wondering if putting a brace that’s used for lateral epicondylitis/tennis elbow over my mid forearm(general area of extensor pollicis longus & brevis, abductor pollicis longus) would relieve some of the strain on the tendons going to the thumb and across the wrist by shifting the tension back on the muscle bellies.

Since I have gone back to work 2 months ago, my right arm has really been hurting. I am right handed and work in a headlight factory so I use automatic drivers all day long. It has never bothered me much before but since being back, it really hurts.

Not in the same spot all the time, sometimes in the forearm, or bicep area, started out being my shoulder. Also, it hurts the most at nighttime and when I first get up in the morning, not so much when in use.

My elbow/ right has severe chips in in which are visible and you can feel by touch. What kind of long term problems could this cause?
I know there are wrist supports (bands), tennis elbow braces, wrist immobilizer braces. But i dont know what is the best thing to use. I talked to my doctor, he suggested to avoid surgery because it will just keep chipping. I am 20 Years old. It happend a year ago and I am starting to get more frequent pain in my wrist, tenonts and forearm when doing simple task like typing and drivingfishing :(
Sometimes i get a tingling/ numbness in my hand and forarm.
On a good day I can perform tasks with ease as the chips have alligned; the elbow feels semi normal (smooth). But other days the chips move around and I cause more pain.
Any help or info is much appreciated. I am in college and working at a coop now. I havent had time to see a specialist about this but plan to. Please Help.
Any info on the proper use of any aiding braces would be nice aswellthanks

i am in a tennis camp and recently my forehand arm (right) has been really hurting. it’s my upper forearm, but my elbow doesnt hurt. it’s one specific spot on my upper radius (i’m pretty sure that’s the bone i’m trying to describe) it is exremely tender; you can tell when you put pressure on it. it hurts to do activities as simple as pouring from a pitcher, or holding a heavier bowl. is there anything i can do to treat my pain??

I plugged in my fan without turning it off, stupid I know, but lack of sleep during dead week will make you do stupid things. Anyways, I was shocked in my right arm and now the muscles in my forearm and bicep are really sore/tight, also my joints (elbow and shoulder) feel like thick pins are stuck in them. Is this something I should see a doctor for or just let it go? I’m just surprised it hurts after about 40 minutes.

Any thoughts?

I have wanted a tattoo since I was young, but always wanted to wait for the right inspiration. Well, I’ve found my subject – but now I have to pick the location on my body. I love the way forearm and inner elbow tattoos look, especially the elbow. Is there anyone out there who’s had either of those locations tattooed who could give me some idea of how bad the pain is? For a first time tattoo (and maybe the last), I just don’t know if I should go all out and take the pain or play it safe….

This started about 2 months ago in mainly my hand and fingers. It extended to my wrist, then forearm. My primary said "tennis elbow" and gave me a cortisone shot. It didn’t help and I’ve had lots of cortisone shots in my hand and wrist over the past several years. He sent me to an orthopaedic who said it didn’t seem like carpel tunnel but had me tested. The nerve conduction test and EMG testing for pinched nerves and nerve damage came back fine. Now he wants me to see a neurologist to rule out MS. No other symptoms that I can think of. The muscle weakness has now started in my upper arm. It hurts to type at work, brush my teeth and even drive. (It’s my dominant arm.) Any thoughts?

My stupid friend did the same arm grab to the same arm over and over and over and over and now my elbow/forearm feel pain when I use it to list weights or punch the punching bag. Why has this pain not gone away yet? Do I need to wait longer or do I have tendonitis or something? I am not going to go to the doctor to spend 0 so I can be told I injured my elbow so please don’t suggest the doctor.

To describe the pain it is not muscle pain, it feels like the bone, or some tendons or something deep in the bottom of my elbow and up the bottom of my forearm a little. When I do pushing exercises like bench press, it doesnt hurt while I do the exercise, but once I set down the weights my whole elbow forearm area on my right arm starts to hurt in a throbbing type of pain…

This short article gives you useful information on effective tennis elbow relief. If you just know what action to take and which ones to stay away from, your chances of relieving your tennis elbow pain quickly, increases a lot.

There is no question that tennis elbow can have a tremendous effect on your daily activities. For most people suffering with this injury, grasping a coffee cup in the morning can be extremely painful and difficult. If you really want to beat this debilitating injury, there are 3 simple tennis elbow exercises you can perform to help increase the range of motion, decrease stiffness, improve mobility and strength of your injured muscles and tendons.

Tennis Elbow Exercises 1 – Wrist Extension

For this exercise, you will again need the can of soup or a 1 liter of soda. Place a soup can or 1 liter of soda in your hand with palm facing downwards toward the floor. Support your forearm at the edge of a table or on your knee so that only your hand can move. Let the wrist down slowly go past parallel to almost 90 degrees with your forearm and then slowly come back up to parallel with the floor.

Tennis Elbow Exercises 2 – Forearm Pronation/Supination

For this exercise, I recommend you use a hammer, wrench, something that you can get a nice grip on. Once you have something in your hand with forearm supported by the arm of a chair, your knee or coffee table. Rotate hand to palm down position, return to start position (hammer perpendicular to floor), rotate to palm up position, repeat.

To increase or decrease the resistance, try moving your hand farther away or closer towards the head of the hammer. In other words, if you are grasping the hammer at the very end of the handle and the head of the hammer is the furthest away from your hand, then this will be the most challenging and greatest resistance for you

Tennis Elbow Exercises 3 – Finger Extension

Interweave a thick rubber band around all five fingers. Keeping your elbow as straight as possible [but if you feel pain when you completely straighten your arm only straighten as far as you can without pain], try to straighten and spread your fingers outwards as if you were going to catch a softball. Hold for three seconds, then let your fingers relax naturally; do not close your hand completely. For added resistance, use a second rubber band. Repeat for 25 repetitions for 3 sets.

It’s not uncommon for tennis players to express their concern about developing tennis elbow as a result of playing too much tennis. For those of you who enjoy the game of tennis, there is a chance you may have encountered the dreaded tennis elbow at some point during the tennis season It can hamper your game and even end your season prematurely, depending on the severity.

Tennis elbow, or medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition encountered not only by those who enjoy playing tennis for which is it known, but also by anyone whose daily activities involve repetitive extension of the wrist (the position of your wrist when doing push-ups), such as kayakers, paddlers carpenters, chefs and most other people who are engaged in manual labor jobs.

It is caused by irritation, inflammation and small tears of the tendons in the extensor muscles of your forearm where the tendon attaches to the bone. This outermost area of the elbow becomes quite tender too the touch If you are a tennis player who loves to hit strong and powerful backhands, in which you whip the racket around with great speed, it is easy to understand why this might affect you.

While it may become a fairly debilitating condition, it also can be managed without a visit to your doctor if caught early enough. Icing 15 to 20 minutes two times a day may help with pain and inflammation, anti-inflammatories can be beneficial only in the short term, as long term use of anti-inflammatories can be dangerous to your health.

Controlled, specific exercises of the forearm muscles every other day and sometimes before light activity may be helpful in prevention. Strengthening of the forearm muscles through regular wrist extension and flexion exercises with added weight resistance can also help relieve tennis elbow pain.

There is a burning feeling where the forearm meets the elbow area closest to my body.

I seem to always be aware of my right forearm, I have discomfort in it constantly throughout the day.. It is hard to describe, it is not a pain or soreness it feels like the muscle is being clenched so I think it might be tight… I went to physio for it and they did active release on my forearm and it just made the forearm feel sore, they told me to stretch it a lot but that does not help at all, sometimes it feels worse after stretching
i play tennis 8-10hrs a week at an intense level and am on the computer a lot but even if i rest for a couple days the forearm stays the same, it feels a bit better or a bit worse fluctuating from day to day
This is not tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome, i feel this on my muscle and not near the elbow its about 2/3 up my arm (2/3 up arm starting from wrist and going to elbow)

Has anyone experienced this or know what it is? I would really appreciate any help
Xtra Info: When i sit at the computer my arm and elbow are at about an 80 degree angle, my physio said i should get it as close to 90 degrees but 80 is as close as i can get it with my sitting arrangements,
I have a private coach that I take lessons from every month who is extremely qualifed so it is not a technical problem from tennis…
My forearm is also very thick so I doubt i have this problem from a weak muscle..
No, I haven’t gone to the doctor about it, i get pain when i press on it but not on the outside of the muscle but on the inside middle part of it
