I used to be an avid weight-lifter in high school, and still dabble every now and then. Later in high school (it must have been very gradual) I noticed that my arms would not unbend all the way. I would actually laugh about it with friends, because it didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, and I figured it was just from working out and having developed muscles. Now, roughly ten years later, my elbows hurt when I lift anything even mildly heavy (groceries, my son, etc.). It is a burning sensation in the elbows, and if I lift something significantly heavy the pain might persist on and off throughout the day. It aches pretty bad, and almost feels like the elbows need to pop but cannot. I have been told by a family doctor that this is probably tendinitis, and he would recommend physical therapy if not for me not having health insurance. He suggests searching for "elbow exercises" on the internet. Does anybody have any experience with dealing with/curing this problem? Apparently is it quite curable. I would love to be able to get into weightlifting again and do simple chores without my elbows aching so badly. Any suggestions or similar stories are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Okies,I asked a q like this before, but my problem is getting a bit more serious @ this stage. My right elbow is SERIOUSLY swollen for the past 2/3 months, and nobody seeme to know whats wrong with it!!=( I’ve gone to a really good orthapedic doc,and he said it was prob bruising or bleeding, and put me ina sling and prescribed anti-inflamatories. So that was grand and we went off, thinking my arm would be as-good-as-new. We made an appt. to see him again after 2 weeks, but my arm was not any bit better. He took x-rays,but they showed no fracture. This was really annoying, because the doc just laughed because he was hiding the fact that he was confused. He said to come bac to him in a few months if I wasn’t getting better. During these months,I was in another hospital, and another doc saw me and he took more x-rays and, again,it showed no fracture. He put it down to tennis elbow, and gave me steroid injections. He said that I’d be better in a few weeks with using the anti-inflamatory gel we have
but the swelling has NOT gone down any bit. I started going to physio, and she doesn’t have a clue whats going on either, but she feels there is something seriously wrong with it. I really don’t know what to do now,and I am in soooo much pain, and the pain is even worse when you don’t know whats wrong with you. We are making an appt with the original doc,but I have a feeling he will say rest, and anti-inflammatories and painkillers(which don’t work anymore)
but I HAVE rested, and done everything I can,but nothings helping!! I really wanna get it sorted,so do you people have any suggestions?? I really need help, its been going on for the past 2-3 months, and I wanna get rid of the pain!!
Please help me,any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
nope,i havnt had an mri scan on it,and they are really expensive(in ireland, anyway)and I’ve already had one on my knee, and I’m getting one on my head. Health insurance will cover it,but ill be waiting months for it,and im in a bit too much pain to wait,i wanna sort it out! Thanks anyway

I have been diagnosed as having a sprain exerted on my common extensor origin from the lateral epicondyle and a severe jarrig effect on the outer aspect of my left elbow.
The consultant has written that activity modification and elbow clasps and even cortizone injections may be necessary -
- YET he has also written (to my sheer disbelief) that he believes the injury should have no long term job related implications.
In my belief tennis elbow will have a little place on insurance forms and application forms for various occupations.
As I am licenced to deliver all goods of a hazardous nature including explosive- I have doubts in my own abilities as to whether my arm will be an element to consider when evaluating potential threat/ danger etc.
Do you think I am right or do you think I’m paranoid and no employer or insurance company can legally differentiate or be prejudiced against me after suffering this condition?
Do insurers or employers have prejudice for this ?

I see these questions all the time and I realize that there is no way an internet audience can accurately say whether or not your bones are fractured. But I am just looking for opinions on whether I should wait it out a little longer, or just suck it up and get an x-ray. I really hate having to wait for hours at the doctors though to just have them say that its a sprain and I need to ice it.

Anyway, on to the problem. We have this evil cable cord lying on the ground that I have been bugging everyone in the house to help me figure out how to get it out of the way, well yesterday (it was still laying there evilly) and I tripped over it and fell forward. I put my hands out (instinctively, and obviously since that is the natural reaction) and my left elbow made this loud popping sound and I doubled over in pain. Well today I have no swelling, and both elbows are sore but my right elbow is not even a concern since its not even comparing to my left elbow. It hurts right where the radial head attaches to the elbow joints if you touch it, and when I straighten or bend my arms it is also painful. But here’s the deal, it is very painful but its nothing compared to the pain I felt when I broke my arm so I am wondering if its just a torn ligament or a fractured radial head. Like I said, there is no swelling, but on the opposite side of my elbow there is a very small bruise there. I have no deformities. Do radial fractures generally hurt really bad? If they do, then I am not concerned.

Also, if it turns out to be a radial head fracture what do they do? Do they just splint it? If that’s the case I already have a sling I can use, so I would rather save my insurance for something more important then just wasting my entire Saturday to have them tell me to sling it and ice it.

Sorry for the super long, boring question! ^_^ Any comments would be greatly appreciated though.

I’ve had pain in my elbow for two weeks. It hurts to even pick up a coffee cup. The bone also hurts to the touch. I was telling a friend about it and she told me it sounded like tennis elbow. I looked it up and the symptoms match up. It says it’s caused by repetitive motion. I don’t do any repetitive motion for any length of time. The day it started hurting I moved a love seat and I also was holding up my printer to slide a board under it to keep it from scratching a shelf it was sitting on. The shelf was close to the floor and I was holding the all the printer weight with it sitting on top of my hand. Maybe that was the cause. But why the pain on the bone? I don’t have insurance so I don’t want to go to the doctor just so he can tell me to rest it. I can do that free. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and what I can do about it.
It doesn’t really affect normal activity other than I can’t lift weights right now. I know it wasn’t caused by weightlifting though.

I had surgery on both arms for tennis elbow/tendinitis. My arms were not healing as fast as my doctors thought they should, so I asked my doctor for a prescription for deep tissue massage in my arms (to help the tendinitis). He gave me one and I called a licensed place that stated in the phone book that they do deep tissue massage therapy. I called them on the phone and made sure that they do this type of work and they said yes, no problem, just bring in my prescription to my first appt. So I did, and it ended up being a Chiropractors office which was clearly not set up for deep tissue massage on the arms. He has been working on my neck and back since end of August and at first at the end of each session he would pay some attention to my arms for about a minute. I questioned him about this because I was concerned about workers comp not paying the bill for a chiropractors office and he assured me that if they don’t that my Blue Choice will pay for it. He also said that he would
write me up a release stating that I would never see a bill from them (to ease my mind). I finally told him that I felt I was clearly in the wrong place, and he told me that the neck and arms are connected and that it would benefit me, so I continued to set up appts. I did however tell him though that I didn’t feel that this was the place for me as far as massage for my arms. He then asked one of the massage therapists that work in the same building with him come in and speak with me about how much it would cost me per 1/2 hour for the massage that I need for my arms! Oh yeah, and the letter of release that he gave me only states that I am not responsible for copays! I called the insurance company today and it is in review and they told me that if workers comp does not pay for it, I might have to go before a judge and jury, so I called the Chiropractor’s office and told him this and that I want a letter stating I will never see a bill and he is being testy with me. I am going to
go to my appointment today just so I can get that letter, but I don’t appreciate him making me out to me the a-hole when he clearly mislead me from the beginning just so he could get my business. What should I do if he doesn’t give me that letter and I end up having to waste my time with court and get a bill? I am really aggrivated. Not only has he wasted my time, but I did not get the deep tissue massage on my arms that I needed.

have had bad lower back pain for about a year now and the doc has done xrays and urine tests and says nothing out of line? I ALSO have Tennis elbow, which really hurts! Have been on Vicodin 2/day, sometimes I need 3 or 4 and then i have to suffer other days because I am short on my script. I usually get them refilled every month with just a phone call. Now after a few months not seeing him, he wants a physical before he fills anymore. When I see him, should i tell him I need more than 2/day? Last time I seen him, he refered me to pysical therapy, but I cant afford that and dont have the time during the week to go. I recently got a script for vicoprofen from my dentist due to an abcess tooth and when the tooth problem was gone, i utilized the extras to help with my back. BTW- would that be considered doctor shopping? cuz i have two scripts.. ALSO does anyone know what physical therapy costs, because my insurance dont cover it.
Thanks

I tried researching how to cure tennis elbow, but pretty much all I found were ways to help subdue the pain or discomfort by icing it or what not.

Unfortunately life has put me in the situation where I do not have insurance so going to a Physcial Therapist is not that practical at the moment.

Does anyone recall what they have done , such as stretching certain ways, strength training on the elbow/arm a certain way? Of course the last thing I want to do is negatively impact healing by just tearing the elbow up more but I have a high tolerance for pain so I can handle it if I have to do some type of strength training.

From what I read I really don’t want to be out 6 months until it resolves itself, surely there must be something more practical in my situation.

*note, i got this from cycling by using the drop bars too much and not switching up more often so my elbow took a beating and I am paying the price now!
