First off, i started lifting weights when i was 15 1/2 i got started lifting august of 2009, lifted for about 6-7 months and then i first started getting pains in my elbow. I took a week off, returned the next week and was fine. Couple months later it returned slightly, the kind of pain that just kind of aches to where your uncomfortable, and it would only happen when i was sitting or laying around. I lifted a little through it but lowered the rate of my exercises, and it eventually came back then too. Got to be summer 2010, and i tried p90x, i made it through phase one but i couldnt make it to the recovery week of phase one (3 weeks into the program) and my elbows were in agony.

I didnt lift for a month and a half and i went to the doc. He said it was tennis elbow, and told me to wait a little while before i start lifting again. After the pain subsided (1 month and a 1/2), i started back with low intensity to work my way up. Everything was going good. Started doing weight training at school august 2010 and after we maxed out on the second week, my forearms and elbows were hurting.

I went to the doc again and he said he thought my tendons and ligaments around my elbows were just inflamed from maxing out on bench press, and incline bench press. took 2 weeks off, with a very powerful anti inflamatory and i was fine. Got to be a month and a half later, it was bothering me slightly so i took a few days off and i was ok. Now we get to december of 2010, we were getting out for christmas break and we would have a 2 week vacation, so i tried to do a little more than usuall so i’d get a little more muscle growth over the break.

That was the 20th, well my elbows and forearms started bothering me that evening, i waited until the 23rd and they were still bothering me a little, but i done a little workout at home with my at home equipment. And they’ve really been bothering me. I havent lifted at all, just worked my job. My job consists of scrubbing, painting, sanding, and fixing up a house. I’ve been working that job since the end of september of this year. It seems like my joints are aching. My shoulders, my biceps (slightly), my tricep where it connects to my elbow some, the top of my forearm (where tennis elbow would be), and my elbow joint was hurting.

It just snowed here on christmas eve, we got 6 inches so i was wondering if maybe the cold weather had anything to do with it or if it was something more serious.

Can someone please help me out. I don’t understand why I’m aching so much now but i wasn’t at this time last year if it has to do with weight training.

Pelican, I’m aching all over my arms right now. Basically i kinda have a little pain in my shoulders, sometimes throughout the day my bicep will be sore, occasionally my triceps, but i can really feel it on the outside of my forearm where my tennis elbow was, and on the back at the elbow joint. My shoulders is either between the trap and shoulder on the back of the shoulder.

Basically its a “weak feeling” if you will and almost feels like i’ve had a hard workout and my elbows are the same and the top of the elbow feels like a bruise but there’s no bruising there.

Over a week ago, I hurt my elbow lifting weights and was diagnosed the next day with Tennis Elbow. Doctor only gave me pain medicine and told me to get a wrap over the counter. The pain has since subsided, but there is still some discomfort. How long should I take off before I resume lifting? Should I lift as much as I can, even if there is a small amount of discomfort, or will this hurt it further or take more time to fully recover? Will it ever fully recover?

My team and I have a daily routine for tennis practice. First we run a mile, then we go to the weight room and do several different weight lifting exercises, and then we play tennis. Is lifting weights bad before playing tennis? Can it affect our performance on the courts?

My elbow is sore all the time and stiffens up constantly, making it tough to sleep at night and also lift anything in a curling motion. I lift heavy weights 4 day week and was thinking this is what’s causing it. Any ideas??

I am a male in his early 20s who is new to weight lifting. I have never “worked out” before this stage in my life. I have been lifting weights every day for about 4-5 weeks now. I probably have only taken 6 days off total. To keep my body from wearing down, I have been alternating the days when I work out upper and lower body (like my buddies have told me).

Within the last week I have noticed that I have been experiencing a pain located around my elbows. The pain is usually at its worse right after I do bicep curls. The pain continues after I leave the gym. I go home and find it painful to fully extend my arm. This pain in my elbow joints keeps me from opening my arms to full capability. For example, when I reach my arm out to grab something, a sharp pain is felt in or around my elbow joint.

I asked a few weight lifting friends what the problem could be. They said they have never heard of this happening before and I should take a few days off. I took 2 days in a row off and the pain disappeared but returned when I began lifting again.

HERE IS MY MAIN QUESTION. Am I putting myself at risk of elbow joint injury? OR am I simply feeling the pain of a new set of muscles being worked that I have never worked before? Am I actually feeling pain in my bones or is this just sore muscle pain that I need to overcome to get stronger?

If it helps, the pain is felt directly behind the pointy bone that appears when you bend your arm (located on the upper arm, not the hand/wrist lower half of the arm).

Thanks!

I returned to lifting weights recently and now when I do, my elbows get so sore for the few days after lifting that i cant even make my arm straight without a good deal of pain. This never used to happen! It is much different than the sore muscle feeling and this is right at my elbow joint.

as a tennis player am i screwed? i crack my nuckles, therefore weakening my grip(proven by scientists) and i used to crack my elbows and now, sometimes when i put pressure, like lifting weights or w/e even swinging, it hurts . it might be tennis elbow but how long would that take to heal
also, its hard to exert(how do you spell it?) power/force with these problems

i know i have tennis elbow because i have visited the doctor. the pain started about half a year ago, and only sometimes get better when i rest it. there was a period of time when i rested that arm and if did not hurt even when i fisted tightly and "mimed" lifting weights (now it hurts). but after i resumed gymnastics, the pain came back. the doctor recommended one to two weeks’ rest, but it does not solve the problem wholly. do i have to rest it for a longer period of time to let it heal completely?
also, will the performance and durability of the elbow in the future be affected by the period of time which i have tennis elbow?
lastly, my elbow cracks very often. i find that after cracking, the elbow is a little less pain. because i have had this condition for a long time, i found out a way to crack the elbow with the least pain. but the question is this: is elbow cracking normal and does it have any good or bad effects (long and short term)
I REALLY REALLY NEED HELP PLEASE!!!! thanks!

Been struggling with tennis elbow for 7 weeks. I haven’t touched a racquet in 6 weeks and stopped lifting weights 4 weeks ago. Started taking aleve twice a day 5 days ago and plan to continue that for total of 14 days then see MD if no better. I was icing it 1-2 times a day for about 2 weeks but stopped after no improvement felt. Any thoughts?

What can do about tendonitis/tennis elbow?  I have been lifting weights for upper body twice per week for about 2-3 years now, I lift heavy…most sets are 6-8 reps.

Lately, I have had serious elbow pain, particularly when my arm is bent. Is there a way to fix this problem aside from stopping lifting altogether?

What To Do For Tendonitis

Is there something about my workout routine in particular that caused my problem? Too much pushing or pulling movement? Should I mix up the routine? Or is it just overuse in general? Seems to flare up most during chest exercises.

My routine is as follows, and has been the same for the entire 2-3 years that I’ve been lifting:

Chest:
40 pushups to warm up
Flat barbell bench press, 3 sets (one light warmup, two heavy)
15 degree incline dumbell press, 2 sets
30 degree incilne dumbell press, 2 sets
45 degree incline dumbell press, 2 sets

Lats:
Wide grip pull ups (palms facing out) to warm up
Wide grip pull ups with added weight, 2 sets
T-bar rows, 3 sets
Bent dumbbell rows, 2 sets

Shoulders:
Side lateral raises, 3 sets
Smith machine shoulder press, 3 sets
Upright rows, 3 sets
Shrugs, 2 sets

I don’t do any isolated arm exercises.

I am wondering if a cortisone shot will only provide temporary pain relief? Been struggling with tennis elbow for 7 weeks. I haven’t touched a racquet in 6 weeks and stopped lifting weights 4 weeks ago.
