I have been playing tennis for a bout 3 years and I am playing USTA tournaments now. I have a coach, and I usually play 4-6 times each week. I take lessons and I practice a lot, but what is a good daily exercise routine that I can do that will help my tennis game, and help me get into better shape for tennis? Thanks.

Last Tuesday I’ve started my workout of:
running for an hour, or at least burning 300 calories or more before I stop.
4 different ab exercises on reps of 30 the first week, moved up to 40 at the beginning of this week.
(ab bicycle, crunches, reverse crunches, knee crunches(touch elbow to opposite knee))
Playing tennis for an hour and a half

Immediately, I’ve noticed my upper abs becoming really defined and firm, along with my obliques. My entire core is getting firmer, but what I’m really after is losing my tiny lower stomach fat. It’s a pinch but it’s so hard to get rid of. I can feel it burning during my ab workout, so I know I’m doing exercises that reach them but why is it not showing on the outside? I’ve already lost 3 pounds.

How can I reach that flat stomach before March 20th?
I don’t have access to a gym or weights. Just my body weight and a treadmill.

I’m 16, btw.
My diet is already good.
Dont drink pop, or eat sugary junk-cookies,cndy,etc.
Lots of protien, grains, fruits/veggies.

Thats not the issue here.

Two weeks ago, i started playing tennis with my friends in our neighborhood park. i had never played before. At first we were just fooling around, but after finding out that i liked tennis, i started getting a bit more serious. I youtubed videos about forehands and the such and saw my school coach for 1 day to ask about the form on a forehand. (he lives in my neighborhood.) The next day, with my friends, I started ripping balls, trying out the forehand. (each of these days btw, we were playing for around 1.5 hrs) That night, my hand started to hurt big time. The next day the pain was gone, but would come back whenever i shook somebody’s hand or tryed to grip something. A few days later, i thought it was better so I tried to play again. The pain came back, along with a pain going down my first finger, and stretching to my elbow. Now whenever I make the forehand follow through motion, even without a racket, I feel a slight discomfort at my elbow, and handshaking still hurts, but very little. Ive found that the pain can also be created by pulling up on my first knuckle while holding the second down, or by pressing on a point on my first knuckle bone about an inch higher than my wrist. (metacarpal?) Its been a week and a half since I last played tennis, but just by doing these things I can still feel pain. Im on vacation now so I cant see a doctor (im in india), but can anyone tell me what this pain is or if it is tennis elbow? I hear that tennis elbow comes from repetitive straining, but I have really only been playing tennis for 2 or 3 days and doing a proper forehand for 1 day. My backhand does not hurt at all, and it hurts much more if I actually hit a ball while doing the forehand motion. Im 15 btw. Sorry for all this info, but I really need to be sure if this is serious or not because I want to try out for my HS team come spring.
thanks, and i realize my mistake, but right now i need info on what i did to my hand, whether I pulled a muscle or what.

Last fall, I played a little too much tennis and developed tendinitis in my right wrist and began to see a slight hint of tennis elbow, but fortunatley stopped and immobilized my arm before anything permanent could set in. Now that spring is coming, I’m going to start playing tennis a lot and I’m wondering what sort of vitamins and/or excersizes and/or anything I can do to keep my arms and joint strong and healthy. I currently take a normal multivitamin, a omega-3 complex and a glucosamine/chondroitin complex. Is there anything else I can be taking to strengthen tendins/muscles/connective tissue/bones? Also, what sort of excersizes, workouts or warm ups can you reccomend for me?

I’ve stopped playing tennis for about 4 months and my tennis elbow still won’t go away. My mom says it’s because i’m typing on the keyboard too much, could that be? I’ve been applying icepack on my injury for about 20 min each day and stretching the area. Neither seems to be helping, so what should i do?

My friend is 28 and has been playing tennis a lot and says he’s a 4.5. He is using a Babolat Pure Drive strung with a 16 gauge polyester. I don’t remember the brand or tension, but I think it was fairly low.

I used to wait a bit when hitting with the racket and kind of pulled my shoulder. I think that’s where I’m most susceptible to injury when playing tennis. What are some tennis exercises for tennis for the shoulders?

It is also known as shooters elbow or archers elbow. the outer part of the elbow becomes sore and tender. It is commonly associated with playing tennis and other racquet sports, though the injury can happen to almost anybody. it is also known as lateral epicondylitis (inflammation of the outside elbow bone) other than relef of pain in the short term, what other effects are associated?

Thankyou to all who reply :D

Hi i’ve been having this problem when playing tennis only when i’m serving, and only when i try to serve hard. My elbow joints start to hurt. A lot of people say you’ve got a tennis elbow, but i don’t think it is. My elbow just hurts when i try to serve really hard, if i serve softly i don’t feel pain and i don’t feel it when i’m doing my forehand or backhand, and the pain goes away after a day.
Could anyone tell me what kind of symptoms this is and what i can do to stop it.

It started doing this when I was 13, the summer I started playing tennis.

I’m 17 now =P No one would ever take me to the doctor for it.

It hurts from time to time, but its not extremely painful or unbearable.

Now I really don’t feel it popping out like it used to, but I can still move whatever was popping out there on the side slightly.

Is this treatable? Or is the fact that its not popping out as often or as bad as it used to mean it’s healing itself?

I wore an arm brace for quite awhile, but it squished my arm more then helped my elbow =P
Its hard to tell with my jacket on, but I took it off and it is still popping out of the joint, whatever this thing is X_X Nothing looks out of place or odd on my elbow, but something is popping out on the side.
Oh yeah, this is my right elbow by the way.
If I doesn’t keep me from missing school like my evil sinus infections my mom doesn’t get off her butt to do much =P And we have no money, she has less money then I do and I have hardly any money D=

I don’t know why my grandma wouldn’t take me, she called a chiropractor but they wouldn’t even see me, he told me to wear the stupid elbow brace =P

Its not hindering my life at all in any way, its just annoying that it gets a little sore very easily.

It’s not uncommon for tennis players to express their concern about developing tennis elbow as a result of playing too much tennis. For those of you who enjoy the game of tennis, there is a chance you may have encountered the dreaded tennis elbow at some point during the tennis season It can hamper your game and even end your season prematurely, depending on the severity.

Tennis elbow, or medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition encountered not only by those who enjoy playing tennis for which is it known, but also by anyone whose daily activities involve repetitive extension of the wrist (the position of your wrist when doing push-ups), such as kayakers, paddlers carpenters, chefs and most other people who are engaged in manual labor jobs.

It is caused by irritation, inflammation and small tears of the tendons in the extensor muscles of your forearm where the tendon attaches to the bone. This outermost area of the elbow becomes quite tender too the touch If you are a tennis player who loves to hit strong and powerful backhands, in which you whip the racket around with great speed, it is easy to understand why this might affect you.

While it may become a fairly debilitating condition, it also can be managed without a visit to your doctor if caught early enough. Icing 15 to 20 minutes two times a day may help with pain and inflammation, anti-inflammatories can be beneficial only in the short term, as long term use of anti-inflammatories can be dangerous to your health.

Controlled, specific exercises of the forearm muscles every other day and sometimes before light activity may be helpful in prevention. Strengthening of the forearm muscles through regular wrist extension and flexion exercises with added weight resistance can also help relieve tennis elbow pain.

im one of those national tennis players who used to play 3-5 hours a day until tennis elbow and haven’t played for 8 weeks. my arms about to heal i think and school is close. i planned on academies, camps, etc. should i go on the cruise and not have time to get back to tennis? i also kinda want to go on the cruise because it’s only one week and i need to gain weight. but one week is still a waste of not playing tennis.

However when windsurfing it dos not seem to heart. The only problem is that after I am windsurfing I do have a bit of extra pain.
I am only learning and using a big board. And till now have not used a harness.
My question is if I continue to surf will this slow the healing down?

Hope Ken can see this as well as any one who can help out.

You know what I’m talking about. That dreaded tennis elbow. Have you ever had any experience with this ailment or any sort of injury you sustained as a result of playing tennis? What caused it and what were the symptoms/signs you had this ailment? How’d you heal up?
